Filmmakers aim to raise $1 million in a month -- through donations!

New York City, NY January 26 2004--In an unprecedented move to get a movie financed, producers Monroe Mann and Brett Duggan of Loco Dawn Films have set up a website that will ultimately attract enough donations in 30 days to put their first film into production.

"In the Wake of Identity" aims to be the first feature film about wakeboarding – a sport that remains under the radar despite its recent explosion in popularity. As a result, finding investors initially proved difficult. Last year, however, Mann found an investor/distributor in Hollywood who pledged to find the matching funds to put the film into production under one condition: Mann & his team had to raise the first million.

Now the race is on. Why? Mann is also an intelligence officer in the Army National Guard. His time to serve overseas may soon be approaching. It's GO TIME!

Instead of returning to traditional investors, Mann decided to raise the million dollars by going back to his inspiration for the film: wakeboarding, the Army, and the movies. He set up www.wakinamovie.com to encourage wakeboarders, military personnel, and film lovers across the globe to donate funds to finance the film and become fledgling ‘producers.'

"Is it tough asking for money?" says Mann. "You bet it is. But it's either our pride or our film, and we plan to make this movie before anyone else does... and before I have to leave, if it comes to that."

With over 3.4 million wakeboarders worldwide and similar numbers of movie and military fans surfing their way to wakinamovie.com, Mann believes that the goal is achievable in less than 30 days.

Once the $1 million mark has been crossed, the film will immediately go into production in both Orlando and Hawaii. They are aiming for a summer 2005 release.
