Jazz Guitarist At Street Child Care Center

Brugge, Belgium September 16, 2004 -- Mark Van Overmeire, a composer, guitar player and percussion performer from Belgium, has been quite busy after the release of his brand new CD "Impresiones" in August. The Pat Metheny Group and Yo Yo Ma influenced musician has spent 6 weeks in the street child care center CEAMAC. "This has been the most rewarding experience of my life," Mark comments. "The love that I received from the children was so overwhelming. It breaks my heart to see them wander to an uncertain future." Mark composed ‘Os Meninos Inocentes' (The Innocent Children) after his stay with the Children of Luiz.

His critically acclaimed album "Impresiones" has been broadcasted on numerous radio stations in the US and Mark is currently enjoying his first GarageBand.com hit - "Patagonia" is charted at #33 in the jazz section of the famous Web site. Mark has also submitted some songs to international contests: John Lennon Songwriting Contest, Unisong, International Songwriting Competition, 4th annual Independent Music Awards.

Mark Van Overmeire started studying music when he was 15 years old learning the basics of drums and guitar. At the age of 17 he entered the intriguing world of composition trying to master the fundamental rules of classical music. At that time, Mark got interested in the exciting rhythms of jazz and studied jazz harmony. He has worked with numerous musicians allowing him to grow as a performer.

In March '97, Mark embarked to South America for 4 years, enriching himself with impressions of another world. And these impressions just needed to be recorded on tape. "South America... the name alone conjures up an array of breathtaking images," Mark is excited. "'Impresiones' (Impressions) is a musical journey of my stay in this heart-warming continent. I tried to translate some experiences into a musical voyage."

The compositions are short stories, the music as diverse as Mark's travel experience was. "Impresiones" is available through CDBaby.com.
